thanks Cherylmoore. Yes, clothing, fabric draping, folds, etc. are SO difficult to draw and that’s what fashion designers, sewers, etc. are expected to draw. Even if they are not illustrators and as talented as you! But, we trek on….

I like the Louisiana setting. Eldenath’s been living there for a few years but was originally from Nigeria. There’s going to be some more in this batch of stories in the future, although I’m not going to give too much away as this scrapes the beginning of the first manuscript.

This line especially struck me as I’ve just finished reading a message from a cousin who is working as a nurse in Afghanistan right now. She is the only woman in the entire camp and she wrote that the local men stare at her because they’ve never seen a woman in anything but an entirely submissive role.
Your illustration powerfully captures a sense of captivity.

Thanks, Sophie, I’m not sure any more. I’ve spent twenty years getting to know these characters. Some of them are based on aspects of real people and feelings.
Ahh I see! I need to try and learn to develop characters more successfully. I hope that skill will come in time!
