Doris (Inajda’s mother) was born in Russia and won a scholarship to a prestigious international school. She loved dancing. It brought her great joy. (This story is dedicated to my Nan. A very strong and brave lady. Throughout her life, my Nan has been a very inspiring woman, who was one of the cleverest and fairest people I’ve had the privilege to know. Most people leave positive impressions, but there are those who do much more. Nan has shaped my life. About The Characters
The blurb for Unbound Boxes Limping Gods
(Set in 4041, the first book begins on Christmas Island, Japan.) Alexand Merek is a woman who treasures "Bad Things," and delights in music. She has done something stupid, placing those she loves in danger. Women like her are not welcome in the ordinary world, where women who play piano and dance with wives are placed into, "The Bad Thing Box." Alexand must fight to bring her lost family back together to save them from an unimaginable fate. (If you would like to see this book published, please press the follow button. The writer gives life to a story, but the reader keeps it alive.)This is for you Dad.
My stories and my world are dedicated to you, Dad. You died before I was old enough to know who you were. I will try to find you in my stories, to go to places far away from this world, to search for you. Maybe one day I'll know you again. Until then I'll keep writing. I'll never forget you. I loved this – as I read it I felt warmth in my chest…a happy, familiar feeling I get sometimes when I feel like a child in a grown up body…if that makes sense.
It really does make sense. I think as we live through more and more experiences, our sense of joy remains (even through moments of sadness) as we reflect on happy times.
Why do I like this? Because it is a lovely vignette, and the teacher reminds me of some one very special … thank you for rekindling fond memories.
Hi Ronald, I’m glad this brought back good memories for you. Thanks for reading, I appreciate it. Good to meet you, Cheryl.
Beautiful, and very moving – I love it =D
Thank you! I love your hand made art BTW
It’s a pleasure! Also, glad you ‘dropped in’ to my blog and that you like my art … =D
Love this! You can feel the dance!
Thank you, I’m glad. The illustration is based on a photo of my own grandmother, dancing as a girl. I’m pleased it translates.
What a gift you have! And an inspirational family!
The grandmother of my favorite character. Beautiful!
Thank you, yes she’s Heyem’s grandmother, who unfortunately died before Heyem was born.
It’s such a pleasure to discover your works – written & visual! I am such a believer in keeping ‘the child inside’ alive. This resonated strongly…
I’m glad it worked, and thanks for taking the time to read, it means a lot to me.
Great
“forever young, forever free” … beautiful. Cheryl you are creating an amazing legacy of art and writing — an ongoing inspiration.
Thank you, Lee
That’s a really beautiful tribute to your nan, Cheryl! And a nice change of tone in the series. Your posts are always so generous of spirit – they really are a pleasure to read – thanks!
Hi Richard, thank you, I really appreciate you reading the stories and am pleased this change of mood works. (This was the hardest story I’ve written, because it’s so personal, but I’m glad I shared it with you.)
This is gorgeous writing! I’m a dancer, and reading that tribute made me feel as wonderful as I feel when I dance. I loved it!
Thank you, I’m glad it made you feel that way, as I love your artwork too (Especially Audrey Hepburn)
I am always inspired by your drawings and writing but this post touched me deeply – your words are beautifully poetic and the image shines with the joy of the dance. Your nan’s spirit lives on in you…
Thank you, John.
